Sport climbing course
If you are interested in spending time in nature, climbing natural and artificial rocks, and if you want to do it safely, you will enroll in our sport climbing course, which takes place once or twice a year, depending on the number of interested parties. The course follows the program of the Commission for Climbing of the Croatian Mountaineering Association and is run by an authorized person, ie, an instructor of sport climbing.
The program of the sport climbing course is developed by the Executive Committee of the Commission for Climbing. The program is adopted in accordance with Sport Climbing Staff Regulation, Article 4 Paragraph 4
Sport climbing courses in Croatia can only be run by sport climbing clubs and led by licensed instructors. Only sport climbers who have completed the sport climbing course following the program of the Croatian Mountaineering Association may assist during the course. Equipment used in the courses must follow IFSC standards (EN standards).
Sport climbing course consists of twelve hours of theoretical lectures, ten hours of sport training and six full-day outdoor excursions.
The required reading for the course is "Sport Climbing" (Hrestak-Jankovic).
In this course you will learn about:
• History and structure of sport climbing in Croatia and abroad,
• Sport climbing ethics
• Equipment and its proper usage (belay devices and descenders, proper use and storage of equipment, quickdraws, quickdraws clipping, harness and climbing shoes, rope, using different belay devices etc.)
• Rock climbing knots (figure eight loop, double figure eight loop...)
• Climbing on artificial structures/indoor walls
• Climbing technique, use of arms and legs to move forward at different grips, foot holds and slope rocks (plates, cracks, overhangs, ceilings, friction, jamming...)
• Rock climbing
• Types of Climbing (climbing on sight, flash, top rope, red point, pink point, boulder routes and belaying methods)
• Sport climbing training (overview of the different training methods, warm up, ,stretching, mental preparation, instruction and nutrition advice for sport climbers)
• Competitions, organization of competitions in sport climbing, different levels and disciplines (lead, bouldering, speed), rules and refereeing, simulation of a competition for the course participants
• Multiple rope-lenght climbs, sport climbing routes, climbing techniques, the overlap between climbing and mountaineering, communication during climbing
• Climbing grades and description of the climbing ascent: Terminology, grading system, description of the ascent, symbols, descriptions of routes and climbing areas, climbing guides
• Designing routes, placing bolts, using different materials, setting anchors, rock quality
• Dangers and injury prevention
• CMRS
Upon successful completion of the course participants are able to climb rocks in the nature and will receive a certificate from the Croatian Mountaineering Association.
